Who We Are

Com.It.Es. or Il Comitato degli Italiani all’Estero (The Committee for Italians abroad) is a representative body whose members ("consiglieri") are elected by Italian citizens living in Queensland and the Northern Territory. The committee is governed by Italian law and operates under the provision of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Il Ministero degli Affari e della Cooperazione Internazionale). It is a world wide organisation and in Australia, it is represented in every state and territory where there is a full-time Consul appointed by the Italian government. 
Com.It.Es. is not an association, but a committee focused on advocacy, assistance and overall well-being of Italians residing abroad. Our primary mission is to greater ensure that Italians have the resources to adapt to the Australian way-of-life and find a place within the fabric of our multicultural society, while continuing to feel connected to their Italian identity. Com.It.Es. QLD NT recognises the vitally important role that associations play to connect Italian people, provide support networks and sustain Italian cultural practices in Australia.   
In general, the purpose of Com.It.Es. QLD NT is to: 
  1. Assist and activate Italians living in Queensland and the Northern Territory (including new arrivals and established residents)  via a responsive and engaging program of initiatives and events.  
  2. Establish relationships with Italian community groups and associations across metropolitan and regional QLD and NT, support their goals and promote participation.
  3. Liaise closely with the Italian consulate in Brisbane and the Italian embassy in Canberra, and be an accessible link between them and Italian citizens/associations in QLD and NT for advocacy, information and assistance.
  4. Ensure that local, state and federal governments within Australia are made aware of issues which may be adversely affecting the Italian communities of QLD and NT, and advocate for action and policy change.
